"On, Wisconsin!" original sheet music - UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-MADISON - https://digital.library.wisc.edu/1711.dl/R3SWR6KUQ2FVP8X

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

Plunge right through that line!

Run the ball clear down the field,

A touchdown sure this time.

On, Wisconsin! On, Wisconsin!

Fight on for her fame

Fight! Fellows! Fight!

And we will win this game.

"On, Wisconsin!" was composed in 1909 by William T. Purdy and Carl Beck, roommates in a Chicago boarding house. Originally intended for a University of Minnesota football song contest, Beck, a former UW student, convinced Purdy to write it for Wisconsin instead. Ironically, the song was almost dedicated to Minnesota, home of Wisconsin's longest-standing football rival since 1890.

The original variation used "Run the ball ’round Minnesota" instead of "Run the ball clear down the field", and inserted the name of the opponent (such as Minnesota, Chicago, Northwestern).
